A quick note about magnesium (or mineral) pools and our kits. Whilst some customers have had success using our kits with their magnesium pools, we can’t guarantee accurate results when they’re used with pools containing added magnesium salts.
Clear Choice Labs was started over a decade ago now, to help out pool and spa owners in Australia and New Zealand. Most pools in this region use traditional chlorine or salt-water chlorination systems, and our test kits are specifically designed around this chemistry.
There are many different magnesium salt blends available, and unfortunately our kits aren’t yet able to account for every variation. When magnesium salts are added to a pool, some test results can be affected and may occasionally appear inaccurate.
That said, we’re always working on improving our products and would absolutely love to bring a magnesium-friendly kit to market. If we’re able to create one that meets our high standards, we’ll be sure to let you know.
In the meantime, if you’d like to try any of our products with your magnesium pool we would love to have you. If you don’t want to jump in with a full kit, you can purchase the tests individually. I would recommend trying the Calcium Hardness test, as it is the one most likely to experience magnesium interference. The test is designed to buffer out an amount of non-calcium salts which includes magnesium to certain levels.
All pools contain some magnesium, it’s only when it’s added in large quantities via magnesium based salts it becomes an issue.
If you have questions about the kits, magnesium pools or anything else to do with pool tests, please email me directly at [email protected] and I’ll be happy to help.
Thanks – Brett
PS: If you have a dog, cat or any other sort of cute animal pet I am also very happy to receive photos of them at that email address 🐾😊
